You always say one day We'll make something happen Like it's just a matter of starting the car Not driving for hours and hours I can't believe we're wearing out from just sitting around There's something growing on us And it's not moss it's rust These aren't cobwebs we can just brush off when we finally decide to adjust I'm struggling to admit it's not what I'm here for But it's not what I came here for And are we not allowed to feel a little desperate? And are we not allowed to feel a little pathetic? So I'm waiting for the day When you make something happen Because it's not a matter of starting the car It's like driving for hours and hours I can't believe we're wearing out from just sitting around Well it's not what I'm waiting for It seems like everybody around here Knows exactly what's happening to me But they can't say Articulate Because they know It's like a diving bell Inside yourself And it's so dark until you look around And see the shining circled lights of everyone else And then you start to realise The looks in all their floating eyes They know you just as you know them A little broken struggling to make some sense It's hard to know what life's about when contradictions strew the ground like broken glass on black asphalt you got to break in to break out Are you breaking in or breaking out?

We have wings on our backs Made of feathers and wax And there's no sun at night Fly as high as we like We don't flinch though we fear Ocean wind in our ears If you fall I won't mind I'll just rise I'll just climb Our last cold nights in bed Your head on my chest Hair soft like a mouth That says don't leave me behind I told you little lie That I'd teach you to fly If you fall take your hand Put your feet back on land But your weight dragged me down I let go let you drown Feathers, wax, memories We can't fly without these See the stars Welcoming me home like so many guiding lights The world is mine I could feel your strength But there was weakness in your eyes Held my tongue you couldn't keep up with me this time Remember nights in bed You so cold while I sweat You would wrap around me And my heat let you sleep

Close your borders Lock up your daughters We'll take the heat Handle the reporters Fight the fire But there's no water Fight the fire But there's no water Rather thoughtless This place you're brought us We'll just forget All that you taught us Can't look past it It's a disaster Can't look past it It's a disaster Light in the hallway Left on to guide us Home from the real world No one can find us Draw them curtains We are suburban Draw them curtains We are suburban We'll forget all that you taught us We'll forget all that you taught us Light in the hallway Left on to guide us Home from the real world No one can find us Draw them curtains We are suburban Draw them curtains We are suburban Find the key that fits the door No one's home my fridge is the core Keep your head up You won't regret it Keep your head up We'll take the credit Open your book Ink on the page No more stories You show your age Fireworks become firecrackers Fireworks become firecrackers Fireworks become firecrackers

There's rage in Rave City tonight Are these our eyes or the city lights? Leap through shadows Won't run, won't fight Give in to our misguided appetites In those shadows Backyard searchlights We wage, wither on our tired lives There's rage in Rave City tonight Are these our eyes or the city lights Leap through shadows Won't run Won't fight Give in to our misguided appetites I will tell your mother I will tell your mother There's nothing to be worried about She better not come outside the house I will tell your mother I will tell your mother There is rage in Rave City tonight Can't see the stars Underneath these city light If you want it we got it all sorts of bad habits just reach out and grab it And in the morning you'll ache to you bones

Here we hold out We wait for relief The sun sees our doubt She makes her retreat From the upstairs window the suburbs lie waiting As evening descends the darkness recreating them White picket fences like spears shadows sliding Towards fortressed houses Inhabitants hiding He moves through the night-house at go-nowhere pace Once full in daylight A desolate place The hushing of wheels on spit-shining streets Masses of metal, massed murders, defeats While heart-broken heroes turn from their green fields To the effort of years To the weight of it yield He moves through the night house at go-nowhere pace Nothing for comfort save his own fading face Reflected in windows The sun retired Streetlights assemble The night sets fire The night sets fire In vacant spaces the grass it rises While naked faces hold no surprises Vacant faces become eyeless Vacant faces become eyeless

about

This EP is a culmination of the first year of our efforts as a band. Imperfect, already bettered in terms of our songwriting, I like to think it's a matter of promise rather than a work that does justice to our developing (and already much more developed) sound. The ideas are here, we're still working on drawing them out.

That's not to apologise for this work. We are mightily proud of our efforts. I feel like Broken Glass and Diving Bells, in terms of lyrically developing a challenging idea, is a success. The instrumentation on We Have Wings is phenomenal, visceral. The energy and ingenuity present in The Rage in Rave City results in a song that swings between operatic melodrama and the boozy raucousness of the blues.

We're yet to build a song that combines every factor of excellence we feel capable of, but this EP really does provide a hint of good things to come. Of course, we have to tell ourselves that. Hopefully you'll agree.
